Hawks Come From Behind, Hold On To Get Past Pacers
The Atlanta Hawks defeated the Indiana Pacers, 114-111, at Gainbridge Fieldhouse on Wednesday night.

The Hawks (12-10) have been struggling on the road all season long, but they managed to come from behind in the fourth quarter and steal a victory over the Pacers (9-15), as the home team just couldn’t find a way to close things out. This was a back-and-forth contest, though, as Atlanta grabbed a 38-29 lead in the first quarter only to see the Pacers respond with a 28-27 score in the second quarter. The Pacers erased that eight-point margin with a 31-22 score in the third quarter and appeared to be in a good position to hold things down, but the Hawks had other plans. Atlanta outscored its rivals by a 27-23 score in the fourth quarter, and that was enough to secure the win despite playing on the road. With the win, Atlanta improved to 4-8 away from home while the Pacers fell to 6-5 at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.

Trae Young was the leading scorer for the Hawks and finished with 33 points and 10 assists, but he also added eight rebounds and two steals. Kevin Huerter chipped in with 19 points, and John Collins contributed 14 points and four blocks while adding three boards and two dimes. Lou Williams (12 points) and Delon Wright (11 points, five rebounds) looked good off the bench. Atlanta shot 51.2 percent from the field.

Malcolm Brogdon led the Pacers with 27 points, nine assists and six rebounds, while Domantas Sabonis contributed 22 points, 10 rebounds and four assists. Myles Turner contributed 17 points, nine rebounds and two blocks, and rookie Chris Duarte delivered 11 points, two assists and two rebounds. Jeremy Lamb added 11 points off the bench. Indiana shot 48.9 percent from the field.

Magic Upsets Nuggets, 108-103
The Orlando Magic defeated the Denver Nuggets, 108-103, at Amway Center on Wednesday night.

The Nuggets (10-11) came into the contest as significant road favorites for good reason, and they lived up to every bit of that billing during a first quarter in which they outscored the Magic (5-18) by a 29-15 margin. Orlando was able to enjoy more success offensively in the second quarter but still faced a 16-point halftime deficit. However, the tide of the game turned in the third quarter, when the hosts put a 12-point dent into Denver's advantage. The Magic then eventually took the lead for good on a three-pointer from Franz Wagner with 1:45 remaining to seal the comeback victory.

Monte Morris paced the Nuggets with 22 points, complementing them with two rebounds, two assists and one block. Nikola Jokic generated an 18-point, 15-rebound double-double that included seven assists and one steal. Aaron Gordon furnished 17 points, eight rebounds and three assists. Will Barton delivered 14 points, four rebounds and three assists.

Cole Anthony led the Magic with 24 points, supplementing them with eight rebounds and seven assists. Wendell Carter Jr. supplied 18 points and eight rebounds. Wagner registered 15 points, five assists, three rebounds, three steals and one block. Moritz Wagner tallied 12 points, while Gary Harris compiled 11 points, three assists, one rebound, three steals and one block.

The Nuggets remain on the road and visit the New York Knicks on Saturday afternoon, while the Magic travel to Houston and face the Rockets on Friday night.

Wizards Finish Strong To Edge Out Timberwolves
The Washington Wizards defeated the visiting Minnesota Timberwolves, 115-107, at Capital One Arena on Wednesday evening.

The contest got out to a tight start and was tied at 24, after one quarter. It stayed tight through the second, but the Timberwolves opened up an eight-point lead late in the quarter, before the Wizards cut it back to a four-point game by halftime. The visitors held the edge for most of the third quarter, but the Wizards took over the momentum in the final minutes, to claim a three-point lead, heading into the final frame. The Timberwolves tied it up again early in the fourth, but the Wizards responded and did not trail at all in the quarter. They Wizards rallied to a game-high 10-point lead with 3:40 left, and they held on to secure the home win.

Montrezl Harrell led the way for the Wizards, with 27 points, five rebounds and three assists, in 21 minutes off the bench. Bradley Beal added 19 points, six rebounds, nine assists and a steal, while Daniel Gafford totaled 18 points, 10 rebounds, three blocks and a steal. The Wizards shot 49.5 percent from the field, including 10-of-32 from long range.

Karl-Anthony Towns led the Timberwolves with 34 points, 10 rebounds, a steal and a block, in 33 minutes. Anthony Edwards followed up with 25 points, three rebounds, three assists, a steal and a block, while D'Angelo Russell finished with 10 points, five rebounds, nine assists and two blocks. The Timberwolves shot 42 percent from the field, including 11-of-37 from deep.

The Timberwolves (11-11) will look to bounce back as they take on the Nets in Brooklyn on Friday. The Wizards (14-8) play host to the Cavs on Friday.

Celtics Defeat 76ers In Tight Contest
The Boston Celtics defeated the Philadelphia 76ers, 88-87, at TD Garden on Wednesday night.

The Celtics (12-10) and the 76ers (11-11) played a tight contest that was literally decided in the final seconds, as the Celtics only secured the victory in the final play of the contest. Boston got off to a better start and jumped out to a 21-20 lead in the first quarter and by the time halftime arrived, the Celtics were already up by four points following a 23-20 score in the second quarter. The 76ers responded with a 23-20 score in the third quarter and it was just a one-point game with 12 minutes left on the clock. The final 12 minutes were extremely tight, but things ended with a 24-24 tie and Boston walked away with the win. The Sixers were one point behind following a three from Danny Green and had possession with 6.1 seconds left, but Robert Williams III blocked Georges Niang’s three-point attempt to seal the Celtics’ win. Boston shot 41.8 percent from the field, while Philadelphia shot a meager 37.1 percent from the field.

Jayson Tatum had one of his best games of the season since he led the Celtics in both points (26) and rebounds (16), and his outing arrived at the perfect time since Boston’s second-best player, Jaylen Brown, only ended with nine points (3-11 FG). Both Al Horford and Robert Williams III ended with 10 points, though Horford also chipped in with eight boards and five blocks. Williams III also recorded three blocks. Dennis Schroder had 13 points off the bench.

Seth Curry was Philadelphia’s leading scorer with 17 points and six assists, while Joel Embiid stuffed the stat sheet with 13 points, 18 rebounds, six assists, three blocks and two steals. No other starter scored in double digits, but Shake Milton (16 points) and Georges Niang (12 points) delivered decent outings coming off the bench.

Cavaliers Blast Heat, 111-85
The Cleveland Cavaliers defeated the Miami Heat, 111-85, at FTX Arena on Wednesday night.

The Cavaliers (12-10) were road underdogs to a Heat (13-9) team that had lost just twice at home, yet Miami was coming into the contest short-handed due to injuries to Bam Adebayo (thumb) and Jimmy Butler (tailbone). However, it was Cleveland that set an immediate dominant tone by jumping out to a 31-16 first-quarter lead. The advantage was 18 by halftime, and the visitors left no doubt as to the outcome when they added another six points to their edge in the third. The Cavs shot 54.4 percent, including 51.6 percent from three-point range, and won the rebounding battle by a 46-28 margin.

Kevin Love led the Cavaliers with 22 points, complementing them with six rebounds, three assists, two steals and one block. Jarrett Allen generated a 19-point, 11-rebound double-double that included one assist and five blocks. Evan Mobley compiled 17 points, 11 rebounds, four assists, four blocks and one steal. Darius Garland supplied 16 points, seven assists and three rebounds. Lamar Stevens turned in 12 points, three rebounds, two assists and two blocks. Isaac Okoro managed 10 points, three rebounds, two assists, one steal and one block.

Tyler Herro paced the Heat with 21 points, supplementing them with six assists and one rebound. Dewayne Dedmon furnished 11 points, 13 rebounds, three assists, two blocks and one steal. Caleb Martin and Gabe Vincent posted matching 11-point totals.

The Cavaliers remain on the road and visit the Washington Wizards on Friday night, while the Heat visit the Indiana Pacers on Friday night as well.

Mavs Dominant In New Orleans
The Dallas Mavericks defeated the host New Orleans Pelicans, 139-107, at Smoothie King Center on Wednesday evening.

The Mavs jumped out to a great start with a, 41-23, lead after one quarter. The hosts had no answers in the second, as the Mavs maintained control and took a 21-point lead into the break. The Mavericks came out strong again in the third and added another six points to their advantage, to put the game entirely out of reach, with a 27-point lead heading into the final frame. The win marks the end of a two-game slide for the Mavs.

Luka Doncic led the Mavericks with 28 points, four rebounds, 14 assists and a steal, in 27 minutes. Kristaps Porzingis followed up with 20 points, 10 rebounds, two assists and two blocks, while Jalen Brunson chipped in 17 points, off the bench. The Mavs shot 69 percent from the field, including 18-of-34 from long range.

Meanwhile, Brandon Ingram led the Pelicans with 29 points, two rebounds and three assists, in 31 minutes. Devonte' Graham followed up with 13 points, six assists and two steals, while Nickeil Alexander-Walker chipped in 12 points, two rebounds, four assists and a steal, off the bench. The Pelicans shot 45 percent from the field, including 13-of-37 from deep.

The Mavs (11-9) and Pelicans (6-18) will face off again in Dallas on Friday.

Bucks Defeat Hornets, 127-125
The Milwaukee Bucks defeated the visiting Charlotte Hornets, 127-125, at Fiserv Forum on Wednesday.

While Charlotte led for the first 33 minutes of this game, there were nine ties and 13 lead changes across the final 15 minutes. Many of those came in the final seconds, with LaMelo Ball hitting a game-tying three with 5.9 seconds left and Giannis Antetokounmpo responding with a game-winning lay-up with 2.0 seconds remaining. Miles Bridges actually had a halfcourt attempt to tie the game but the ball toilet bowled out. Milwaukee ended up out-rebounding Charlotte, 45-36, while outscoring them in the paint, 54-40. In addition, the Bucks outscored the Hornets in second-chance points, 15-4, and in fastbreak points, 17-10.

The Hornets (13-11) were led by Ball, collecting 36 points, five rebounds, nine assists and three steals. Bridges amassed 22 points, nine rebounds and two blocks. Gordon Hayward generated 18 points, three rebounds, five assists and two blocks. Terry Rozier had 10 points, three rebounds, eight assists and three steals, while Kelly Oubre Jr led the bench with 25 points.

The Bucks (14-8) were led by Antetokounmpo and his 40 points, 12 rebounds and nine assists. Khris Middleton compiled 21 points, six rebounds and five assists. Grayson Allen had 16 points, seven rebounds, two assists and two steals, while Jrue Holiday tallied 11 points, four rebounds, seven assists and two steals.

On deck for Milwaukee is a road matchup with the Toronto Raptors on Thursday. As for Charlotte, they're off until Sunday when they travel to face the Atlanta Hawks.

Rockets Defeat Thunder, 114-110
The Houston Rockets defeated the host Oklahoma City Thunder, 114-110, at Chesapeake Energy Arena on Wednesday.

Oklahoma City led for the first 40 minutes of this game but Houston rode a 41-29 fourth quarter to their comeback win. In fact, the Rockets finished the game on a 29-14 run across the final eight minutes to prevail. Houston shot 51 percent from the field and 41 percent from three-point range while holding Oklahoma City to 47 percent from the field and 25 percent from long range. The Rockets also out-assisted the Thunder, 25-16, while doubling them up in blocks, 12-6.

The Rockets (5-16) lost Christian Wood (ankle) and Kevin Porter Jr (thigh) to injuries in the first half of this game but were led by Jae'Sean Tate and his 32 points, 10 rebounds, seven assists and five blocks. Armoni Brooks led the bench with 18 points, four rebounds, two steals and two blocks. Garrison Matthews totaled 14 points and two boards.

The Thunder (6-15) were led by Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, accruing a season-high 39 points, four rebounds and two assists. Luguentz Dort amassed 19 points, two rebounds, four assists and two steals. James Robinson-Earl registered 12 points, nine rebounds and four assists, while Ty Jerome led the bench with 11 points.

On deck for Houston is a home matchup with the Orlando Magic on Friday. As for Oklahoma City, they play the second half of a back-to-back set on Thursday in a road matchup with the Memphis Grizzlies.

Kings Defeat Clippers, 124-115
The Sacramento Kings defeated the host Los Angeles Clippers, 124-115, at Staples Center on Wednesday.

A 29-21 first quarter set the tone for Sacramento in this game, holding the lead for the final three quarters. In fact, the Kings put the game to bed behind a 37-24 third quarter, grabbing a game-high 25-point lead. Sacramento shot 52 percent from the field, 40 percent from three-point range and 85 percent from the free-throw line while holding Los Angeles to 47 percent from the field, 29 percent from long range and 75 percent from the charity stripe. The Kings starters outscored the Clippers starters, 88-44. In addition, Sacramento outscored LA in fastbreak points, 20-11.

The Kings (9-13) were led by De'Aaron Fox, accruing 24 points, three rebounds, five assists and three steals. Terence Davis totaled 23 points, four rebounds, two assists and three steals. Richaun Holmes registered 16 points, 11 rebounds and three assists, Tyrese Haliburton tallied 13 points and 11 assists, while Davion Mitchell led the bench with 20 points, three rebounds, two assists and two steals.

The Clippers (11-11) were led by Luke Kennard, providing 19 points, four rebounds and two assists off the bench. Ivica Zubac led the starters with 17 points and seven rebounds. Reggie Jackson collected 12 points, four rebounds and six assists while Terance Mann had 19 points, four rebounds and four assists. The bench actually outscored the starters, 71-44.

On deck for Los Angeles is a matchup with the Los Angeles Lakers on Friday. As for Sacramento, they return to action on Saturday in a rematch with these Clippers.
