Celtics Defeat 76ers In Tight Contest
The Boston Celtics defeated the Philadelphia 76ers, 88-87, at TD Garden on Wednesday night.

The Celtics (12-10) and the 76ers (11-11) played a tight contest that was literally decided in the final seconds, as the Celtics only secured the victory in the final play of the contest. Boston got off to a better start and jumped out to a 21-20 lead in the first quarter and by the time halftime arrived, the Celtics were already up by four points following a 23-20 score in the second quarter. The 76ers responded with a 23-20 score in the third quarter and it was just a one-point game with 12 minutes left on the clock. The final 12 minutes were extremely tight, but things ended with a 24-24 tie and Boston walked away with the win. The Sixers were one point behind following a three from Danny Green and had possession with 6.1 seconds left, but Robert Williams III blocked Georges Niang’s three-point attempt to seal the Celtics’ win. Boston shot 41.8 percent from the field, while Philadelphia shot a meager 37.1 percent from the field.

Jayson Tatum had one of his best games of the season since he led the Celtics in both points (26) and rebounds (16), and his outing arrived at the perfect time since Boston’s second-best player, Jaylen Brown, only ended with nine points (3-11 FG). Both Al Horford and Robert Williams III ended with 10 points, though Horford also chipped in with eight boards and five blocks. Williams III also recorded three blocks. Dennis Schroder had 13 points off the bench.

Seth Curry was Philadelphia’s leading scorer with 17 points and six assists, while Joel Embiid stuffed the stat sheet with 13 points, 18 rebounds, six assists, three blocks and two steals. No other starter scored in double digits, but Shake Milton (16 points) and Georges Niang (12 points) delivered decent outings coming off the bench.
