Lakers and Knicks Tangle in Big Apple
The Los Angeles Lakers take on the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden on Tuesday night.

The Lakers (9-9) have had an eventful, adversity-filled season to say the least, and they've even seen their victories come with struggle, and at times, a cost. Los Angeles' latest success, a 121-116 win over the Detroit Pistons on Sunday evening, served as a fitting example of both. LeBron James was charged with a flagrant-2 and ejected from the contest in the third quarter for making hard contact with Isaiah Stewart's face, with the incident now also resulting in a one-game ban for the future Hall of Famer. In the victory, Anthony Davis led the Lakers with a 30-point, 10-rebound double-double that also included six assists, five blocks and four steals. Russell Westbrook followed with 26 points, 10 assists, nine rebounds and two steals. Carmelo Anthony furnished 18 points, two rebounds and two blocks. Dwight Howard supplied 13 points and five rebounds. James finished with 10 points, five assists and one rebound in 21 minutes.

The Lakers will be without James due to the one-game suspension he received as a result of Sunday's incident. Davis (thigh) will be listed as probable.

The Knicks (9-8) have found success hard to come by after a 5-1 start, as Tom Thibodeau's club is just 4-7 since that point. Chicago will come into Tuesday's game having dropped four of the last six contests, with their most recent stumble a 109-103 loss to the Chicago Bulls on Sunday night. Julius Randle led the Knicks with a 34-point, 10-rebound double-double that included three assists. Alec Burks recorded 13 points and three rebounds. Isaiah Quickley supplied 12 points, while Obi Toppin managed 10 points, six rebounds, one assist and two blocks.

The Knicks will remain without Mitchell Robinson (concussion) for Tuesday's game. Rose (ankle) will carry a questionable tag, while Taj Gibson (groin) will be listed as doubtful.

Tuesday's game marks the first of two games between the teams this season. The Lakers and Knicks split the two-game 2020-21 season series.
