Facing Darian Weeks
November 30, 2021
Barberena will take on Darian Weeks on Dec. 4 in Las Vegas, Marcel Dorff of MMADNA reports.
Barberena had previously been set to face Matt Brown on the same date but looked like he'd be unable to fight that day after Brown was forced to withdraw due to a positive COVID-19 test. He'll wind up remaining on the card, with UFC debutant Weeks stepping in as his opponent on short notice.

Opponent withdraws
November 23, 2021
Barberena will no longer be fighting at next week's UFC event after his opponent, Matt Brown, revealed Tuesday he tested positive for COVID-19.
Barberena was expected to step into the octagon for the first time since late July as he looked to bounce back from a loss against Jason Witt. The UFC has yet to comment on the cancellation, so it's currently unknown if Barberena will remain on the card against a new fighter or not.
Scheduled for Dec. 4 fight
September 21, 2021
Barberena will square off against Matt Brown on the Dec. 4 card, MMA DNA reports.
Barberena is coming off of a tough majority decision loss to Jason Whit in his last fight July 31, giving him three losses in his last four matches. He will aim to bounce back against another tested fighter in Brown, who is looking to build off of a victory over Dhiego Lima in mid-June via a second-round KO (punches).
Can't defend takedown in loss
July 31, 2021
Barberena lost to Jason Witt via majority decision (28-28, 27-29, 28-29) at UFC on ESPN 28 on Saturday in Las Vegas.
Barberena is ridiculously tough and both men deserve a $50,000 Fight of the Night bonus for this effort (which was later confirmed by UFC President Dana White), but it's difficult to win in this sport if you can't defend the takedown, and Barberena allowed Witt to connect on eight successful tries in this one. Good luck getting a decision from the judges if you spend upwards of a round being controlled on the mat. Barberena has some success early in his UFC run, but he's been exposed in a major way of late. The 32-year-old has lost three of his past four fights and has just a single victory dating back to August 2018.
Facing Jason Witt in July
May 8, 2021
Barberena (abdomen) will face Jason Witt in a welterweight fight on July 31, Marcel Dorff of MMADNA reports.
Abdominal surgery scrapped Barberena from his November matchup against Daniel Rodriguez, but he'll be good to go by July. He's been in a rough patch lately, losing four of his last seven fights, though he's coming off a unanimous decision victory against Anthony Ivy in September in his most recent fight. Witt has lost two of his three fights under the UFC banner, lasting just 16 seconds before getting knocked out by Matthew Semelsberger in March in his latest appearance.
Removed from Nov. 14 card
November 7, 2020
Barbarena underwent surgery Saturday and won't fight in his scheduled matchup for Nov. 14, Marcel Dorff of reports.
Barbarena was slated to take on Daniel Rodriguez on Nov. 14, but he was removed from the card after undergoing emergency surgery on his abdomen. While he hopes to return quickly, it's unclear when his next matchup could be. The promotion hasn't announced whether Rodriguez will get a new opponent.
