Martinez was with Baylor for the team's 2023 season, but the Bears operated him as one of their backups. He hopes to find better luck with Texas State, though the Bobcats having Jordan McCloud could foil his new teammate's starting chances. Still, Martinez has some pedigree to be considered a legitimate No. 1 option, having completed 400-plus passes for more than 4,000 passing yards across two years with Northern Arizona.
