No Daytona 500 Start
NASCAR Cup

NY Racing Team is on the initial entry list for Sunday's Daytona 500 with sponsorship from 100 Coconut Water. A driver has not been announced. Biffle, who drove for the team in five races during the 2022 season, says he will not be the driver this year.
ANALYSIS
Biffle has raced for this team in the past, but it appears that there is some type of contract dispute ongoing between the two parties. Biffle had wished to compete in this weekend's Daytona 500, but that will not be happening now. NY Racing Team has yet to name a driver for their No. 44 entry.

No 2023 plans have been announced. Team made 5 starts in the first 10 events of 2022 with a top finish of 20th-place at Atlanta. Biffle and the team may likely race part-time again in the upcoming season.
Biffle has made one start in each of the last two truck series seasons. One of those was a Texas victory for Kyle Busch Motorsports. While Biffle is retired from full-time racing, he does enjoy the occasional lone start in this division of NASCAR. His 2021 plans have not been announced but we wouldn't be surprised to see him pop up at least once during the upcoming season.
At the time of this writing Biffle was still a free agent looking for a ride. He left Roush Fenway Racing at the end of the 2016 season after posting his worst season on record since becoming a full-time driver in the Monster Energy Cup Series. Biffle is just 46-years-old, and we believe he still has plenty of good racing left in him. However, the opportunities are few and the quality rides are fewer these days in what is a shrinking top division in NASCAR. There are less teams than last year and even fewer than the year before that. Biffle will likely sign with someone, but his opportunity to outperform last season's lowly three Top-10 finishes is not very likely. Watch closely to see where this veteran driver lands, but chances of it being an impactful team are quite small.
The last two seasons have been difficult at best for the Roush Fenway Racing veteran. The performance of this driver and of Roush in general have been well below historical standards. Last season in particular was bad for Biffle. He turned in his worst season since his rookie year of 2003 with only a scant four top-10 finishes for the entire season. The rebuilding effort within the No. 16 team will begin in full starting in 2016. This is the lead stable of this organization, and Jack Roush won't let it languish any longer. Brian Pattie has been brought in to crew chief for Biffle and the team. He comes over from years of success with Clint Bowyer at Michael Waltrip Racing. Biffle has the skills to succeed, it's just up to Roush to make the cars faster and Pattie to make them handle better. There's nowhere to go but up for Biffle in the upcoming season, so he makes a good buy-low fantasy racing candidate.
Biffle entered last season’s Chase for the Cup as the standings leader. He won two races during the first 26 races of the season and was in great position to challenge for the championship. However, a slowdown in the Chase for the Cup erased those title hopes. Biffle managed six Top 10’s during the playoff format, but eventually slipped to fifth in the final point standings. This is a microcosm of the Roush Fenway Racing veteran’s Cup career. Biffle has the skill to win a couple races each season and the ability to push the 20 Top 10 plateau but just lacks the ability to get over the hump for that championship cup. How will Biffle’s late-season fade affect his 2013? Probably not well. Recent history has shown that drivers who come up short late in the season start the next campaign slowly.
After a 2005 season that saw Biffle finish as runner-up to the championship, and collect a series leading six wins, Biffle focuses on a championship run in 2006. Biffle has won championships on every level he's raced, so we like his chances for the cup this season.
