Buday defeated Lorenzo Hood
via KO (knee) at 4:56 of Round 1 at Dana White's Tuesday Night Contender Series. After the show, he was one of three fighters to be awarded an official UFC contract.
Buday is an incredibly large heavyweight, as the telecast noted several times he had to cut weight to get to the 266-pound limit. He certainly put those extra pounds to use, forcing Hood to carry his weight in clinch situations for what seemed like forever. Hood even got off a few solid combos, but Buday's chin held up, and he was immediately able to get things back to a position that was advantageous for him. While holding Hood up against the cage, Buday delivered countless unanswered knees to the thigh of his opponent that nearly crumbled him, but it was a perfectly-squared knee that turned out Hood's lights. Granted, this was exactly what Buday was expected to do as a (-400) betting favorite, but the execution was tremendous. While UFC President Dana White wouldn't admit to having a different bar for weight classes in need of depth, he did directly say "we need heavyweights" when discussing Buday's prospects. The Slovakian-born fighter has a chance to make an immediate impact in the division.
