Pulls upset in Vegas
BantamweightUFC
October 7, 2023
Maness defeated Mateus Mendonca via TKO (punches) at 4:40 of Round 1 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
This Maness victory was more the ineptitude of Mendonca as opposed to anything Nate did, but a win is a win. Truth be told, Maness didn't have to do much here. Mateus developed an obsession with trying to get Nate to the mat in hopes of clamping on a leg lock. Maness stayed wise to the attempts, fought them off, and eventually was able to batter his grounded opponent with power strikes to the point referee Chris Tognoni stepped in. The victory doesn't do much for the 32-year-old Kentucky native over the long-term, but it does snap a two-fight losing streak for Maness and likely saves his job in the process.
Taking on Mendonca
BantamweightUFC
August 15, 2023
Maness will take on Mateus Mendonca at a UFC event on Oct. 7, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nlreports.
ANALYSIS
Maness is set to take on Mendonca after losing two consecutive fights to Tagir Ulanbekov and Umar Nurmagomedov. Maness stands four-inches taller than Mendonca, though the two fighters have a similar reach. Mendoca's 40.0 takedown defense percentage may be a focal point in Maness' strategy during their bout in October.
