Mayes landed just one successful takedown in his first three UFC bouts, but that didn't stop him from connecting on 6-of-8 attempts against Parisian, good for 11:32 worth of control time. Mayes' power is still by far his valuable asset, but he wisely recognized that the only way Parisian could win this fight was on the feet and decided not to give him that opportunity. Mayes has been inconsistent throughout the earlier portion of his UFC run, posting a 2-2 record, but he has now won back-to-back fights. It was nice to see him show a different side of his game in this victory.
