Grant is coming off a loss to Daniel Marcos in his previous fight, and even though he deserved better luck in that bout, he will try to bounce back here. The 38-year-old veteran has gone 2-3 over his last five contests.

Grant lost to Daniel Marcos via split decision (28-29, 29-28, 28-29) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in London.
ANALYSIS
Grant's not going to be happy with this result, and he has a point. Not only did he most likely deserve the win, but there's definitely a case to be made that he won all three rounds. Grant was the more active fighter, attempting 215 total strikes compared to just 141 from Marcos. The significant strike battle was 70-49 in Grant's favor. Davey was well on his way to dropping a unanimous decision to Raphael Assuncao this past March before clamping on a miracle choke, so things appeared to even out here. That said, Grant will be 38 years of age this coming December and can't afford setbacks such as this one.

Referee Keith Peterson spotted the foul and dinged Grant a point, but Assuncao didn't get the position back, and Davey responded by landing a wild spinning shot before clamping on a miracle reverse triangle choke which put Assuncao out cold. While the path to get there was questionable, the unique, buzzer-beating submission would go on to earn Grant a $50,000 Performance of the Night bonus. Grant has now won back-to-back fights on the heels of a brief two-fight losing streak.

Thankfully for Grant, all the work he did to damage Smolka's lead leg early in the fight resulted in him being able to essentially end the bout after connecting on one big leg kick early in Round 3. Grant has been active of late, fighting four times (2-2) since March 2021, and he will need to keep up that pace if he wants to make a run at 135 pounds considering he turns 37 years of age this coming December.
