Weekly Rankings: Week 6 Value Meter

This article is part of our Weekly Rankings series.

Sunday update complete.

Week 6 Notes: Mia @ Jax is actually in London, at 9:30a ET. Bye weeks have begun - ATL, NOR, NYJ and SF are on bye.

Welcome to the Weekly Value Meter Rankings. This is a guide to help you decide who to start and sit in a given week. It's is not a season-long ranking nor a draft guide, and it's also not really intended as a free agent guide. While I appreciate that you want my opinion on pickups, every league is different, and your decision on whether to add/drop a particular player might also be dictated by other factors than who is rated higher in a given week.

Here are my operating assumptions for the rankings:

- The RB/WR/TE position rankings are for PPR leagues.
- The Flex rankings are for Standard leagues.
- 1 point per 10 rushing/receiving yards.
- 1 point per 20 passing yards.
- 4 points per passing touchdowns.

These are the rankings I use when I make my start/sit decisions. Please consult the rankings first before asking "Player X vs. Player Y?" without any other mitigating factors. Of course, I welcome debate - if you think I'm wrong, let me know. But please check out the rankings first before asking your start/sit question. This truly reflects my opinion in my leagues.

These are my particular rankings. If you want a second opinion elsewhere on the site, you can see our Weekly Projections.

Starting after Week 1, the rankings for the subsequent week will first post on Tuesday nights. I will then do a set of updates before kickoff on Thursday, and again before kickoff on Sunday morning. I will post at the top of the article in bold font when ranking updates are in progress and when they're complete.

I welcome debate on the rankings in the comments. Please keep it friendly.

Quarterbacks

1.Patrick Mahomes KC at WAS
2.Josh Allen BUF at TEN
3.*Lamar Jackson BAL vs. LAC
Note: With the Ravens' running game struggling, Jackson had to throw more Monday night and it paid off in a big way. Missed Thursday's practice with an illness. ***Full practice Friday, not on the injury list.***
4.Justin Herbert LAC at BAL
5.*Tom Brady TB at PHI
Note: Brady has a thumb issue and is limited in practice, but the Bucs and Brady downplayed it - he'll play Thursday night.
6.*Jalen Hurts PHI vs. TB
Note: Once again, Hurts was a much better fantasy QB than one in real life in the win over the Panthers. Luckily for him, Sam Darnold was worse.
7.Aaron Rodgers GB at CHI
8.*Dak Prescott DAL at NE
Note: The Cowboys' offense is rolling, but Dak still isn't running all that much, and I'm wondering if that will be part of his game much at all this season.
9.*Kyler Murray ARZ at CLE
Note: (Shoulder) Limited in practice Wednesday and Thursday. When he was playing through a shoulder injury last year, he had a significant decline in performance, both passing and rushing. ***Full practice Friday, removed from the injury list.***
10.Matthew Stafford LA at NYG
11.*Joe Burrow CIN at DET
Note: Burrow was taken to a hospital Sunday evening to get checked out for a throat contusion, but he was cleared and should be good to go for this week. Burrow was listed as having a full practice Wednesday despite being given a 'voice rest.' ***Cleared from the injury list.***
12.*Taylor Heinicke WAS vs. KC
Note: It's possible that Ryan Fitzpatrick (hip) could return next week, but that's not locked in that he'll displace Heinicke even if healthy.
13.Ryan Tannehill TEN vs. BUF
14.*Ben Roethlisberger PIT vs. SEA
Note: Full practice Thursday despite pectoral and hip issues.
15.Jared Goff DET vs. CIN
16.*Carson Wentz IND vs. HOU
Note: Wentz was fantastic Monday night, but the sack/fumble early in the game was costly and reminiscent of 2020 in terms of situational and pocket awareness.
17.Teddy Bridgewater DEN vs. LV
18.Baker Mayfield CLE vs. ARI
19.Sam Darnold CAR vs. MIN
20.Trevor Lawrence JAC vs. MIA
21.Derek Carr LV at DEN
22.Kirk Cousins MIN at CAR
23.*Tua Tagovailoa MIA at JAX
Note: Tagovailoa (ribs) has started throwing and might get cleared to practice this week. Tagovailoa is expected to suit for Sunday's game - it's worth noting, the Dolphins do *not* have a bye after this week. ***Officially active and starting.***
24.*Daniel Jones NYG vs. LAR
Note: Jones suffered a concussion in the loss to the Cowboys and it looked pretty bad. Mike Glennon was serviceable but only just so in his stead. No practice Wednesday, limited practice Thursday - he hasn't yet been ruled out this week. ***Cleared from the concussion protocol and will play.***
25.Mac Jones NE vs. DAL
26.Geno Smith SEA at PIT
27.*Justin Fields CHI vs. GB
Note: Fields hyperextended his left knee in the win over the Raiders - scans on Monday did not reveal any major concerns. Put in a full practice Wednesday.
28.*Davis Mills HOU at IND
Note: Tyrod Taylor (hamstring) isn't yet ready to return, and I'd imagine that the Texans want to see more of Mills before they bring Taylor back.
29.*Mike Glennon NYG vs. LAR
Note: Glennon would be in line to start this week if Daniel Jones (concussion) can't go.
30.*Jacoby Brissett MIA at JAX
Note: Brissett has a sore hamstring from Sunday and was receiving treatment, but was able to get through the game. Meanwhile, teammate Tua Tagovailoa (ribs) has started throwing again. Limited practices Wednesday and Thursday - it's increasingly likely that Tagovailoa and not Brissett will start.
31.*Russell Wilson SEA at PIT
Note: The Seahawks officially stated that Wilson (finger) has no timeline to return and haven't put Wilson on IR, but typically this type of injury takes four-to-eight weeks to heal. ***Officially on the IR.***

Running Backs

1.Austin Ekeler LAC at BAL
2.Derrick Henry TEN vs. BUF
3.Jonathan Taylor IND vs. HOU
4.*Ezekiel Elliott DAL at NE
Note: Elliott is feeling soreness in his lower back and ribcage, but is expected to be available for his usual workload against the Pats. Limited in practice on Wednesday and Thursday - this seems to be to limit his ribcage pain. ***Expected to play.***
5.*James Robinson JAC vs. MIA
Note: It's hard to complain when your back goes for 149 yards and a touchdown, but Robinson was weirdly underutilized in the second half last week.
6.Najee Harris PIT vs. SEA
7.*Antonio Gibson WAS vs. KC
Note: Gibson is still getting starter reps despite the shin injury, and he has a better matchup this week. Sat out Wednesday, limited practice Thursday. ***Expected to play.***
8.*Aaron Jones GB at CHI
Note: Jones is seeing his reps capped for the third week in a row due to an ankle injury.
9.*Kareem Hunt CLE vs. ARI
Note: Held out practice with a wrist and knee issues both Wednesday and Thursday, but so was Nick Chubb. Both still are expected to play Sunday. ***Teammate Nick Chubb has been ruled *OUT* this week. Hunt is listed as questionable but will play and get more carries than usual. Demetric Felton and D'Ernest Johnson will also see some work.***
10.*D'Andre Swift DET vs. CIN
Note: (Groin) Limited practice Thursday, again - the Lions continue to give Swift copious breaks to maintain his health.
11.*Dalvin Cook MIN at CAR
Note: (Ankle) Put in a full practice Thursday.
12.Darrell Henderson LA at NYG
13.*Joe Mixon CIN at DET
Note: Mixon had limited reps last week, but still scored on a nifty run near the goal line. He should get more work this week with Samaje Perine on the COVID-IR list. Limited Wednesday, got a 'maintenance day' Thursday, which seems like a pre-planned day off rather than a setback. ***Good to go for this week, and Perine is out.***
14.*Leonard Fournette TB at PHI
Note: Fournette continues to separate himself from Ronald Jones in the pecking order.
15.*Chuba Hubbard CAR vs. MIN
Note: Teammate Christian McCaffrey is a 50-50 call and game-time decision, but he did not practice Thursday. ***McCaffrey was placed on IR over the weekend and will miss at least three more weeks.***
16.Javonte Williams DEN vs. LV
17.Tony Pollard DAL at NE
18.*Myles Gaskin MIA at JAX
Note: Gaskin caught 10 passes for 74 yards and two touchdowns, as the Dolphins played catch-up for much of the game - though one of his TDs was early, and actually put Miami ahead for a brief while.
19.*Khalil Herbert CHI vs. GB
Note: Damien Williams was placed on the COVID-IR on Thursday.
20.*Josh Jacobs LV at DEN
Note: Sat out practice Thursday with an illness. ***Limited practice Friday and then cleared from the injury list.***
21.*Zack Moss BUF at TEN
Note: Moss out-touched Singletary 14-to-7 last week and was more involved in the passing game.
22.James Conner ARZ at CLE
23.*Devontae Booker NYG vs. LAR
Note: ***Barkley officially out this week.***
24.*Alex Collins SEA at PIT
Note: ***Not only is Chris Carson out this week, but he's been placed on IR.***
25.*Damien Harris NE vs. DAL
Note: Harris suffered rib and chest injuries in the win over the Texans, but checked out fine on Monday. However, he also fumbled at the goal line last week, his second really big fumble this season. (Ribs) Present Wednesday and Thursday, but listed as a non-participant Wednesday. ***Listed as questionable, but Harris is expected to play.***
26.*Darrel Williams KC at WAS
Note: Williams will likely start with CEH out - it'll be interesting if the Chiefs trade for Marlon Mack or any other running back.
27.*Latavius Murray BAL vs. LAC
Note: ***Teammate Ty'Son Williams is inactive again.***
28.J.D. McKissic WAS vs. KC
29.*Melvin Gordon DEN vs. LV
Note: Gordon (hip) did not practice Wednesday and was limited on Thursday. ***Limited all week, but expected to play.***
30.Miles Sanders PHI vs. TB
31.*Alexander Mattison MIN at CAR
Note: Obviously this rank assumes that Dalvin Cook won't play. Held out Wednesday and limited Thursday with a shoulder issue. More worrisome is the return of Cook to practice.
32.Kenneth Gainwell PHI vs. TB
33.*Chase Edmonds ARZ at CLE
Note: Edmonds played through his hamstring injury last week but really couldn't get untracked. (Shoulder) Limited in practice on Wednesday and Thursday. ***Limited all week, but expected to play.***
34.AJ Dillon GB at CHI
35.Devin Singletary BUF at TEN
36.Giovani Bernard TB at PHI
37.Nyheim Hines IND vs. HOU
38.*Jamaal Williams DET vs. CIN
Note: Williams was limited Wednesday and absent Thursday with a hip issue and an illness. ***Returned to practice Friday.***
39.Brandon Bolden NE vs. DAL
40.Mark Ingram HOU at IND
41.David Johnson HOU at IND
42.Sony Michel LA at NYG
43.Marlon Mack IND vs. HOU

47.Salvon Ahmed MIA at JAX
48.Ronald Jones TB at PHI
49.Jaret Patterson WAS vs. KC
50.Chris Evans CIN at DET
51.*Justin Jackson LAC at BAL
Note: Sat out last week with a groin injury. ***Cleared from the injury report.***
52.*Darrynton Evans TEN vs. BUF
Note: Evans (knee) has been designated-to-return from the IR and began practicing last week.
53.Ke'Shawn Vaughn TB at PHI
54.Larry Rountree LAC at BAL
55.Dare Ogunbowale JAC vs. MIA
56.Phillip Lindsay HOU at IND
57.Kenyan Drake LV at DEN
58.Ameer Abdullah MIN at CAR
59.Kylin Hill GB at CHI
60.J.J. Taylor NE vs. DAL
61.*Jerick McKinnon KC at WAS
Note: McKinnon saw 25 offensive snaps last week, but had only three touches. But with CEH out, he'll be more active presumably going forward.
62.Malcolm Brown MIA at JAX
63.*Gary Brightwell NYG vs. LAR
Note: Even with Barkley getting hurt early, Brightwell wasn't part of the offense last week.
64.*Jeremy McNichols TEN vs. BUF
Note: Limited Thursday with an ankle injury. ***Did not practice Friday and Saturday, listed as questionable.***
65.*Peyton Barber LV at DEN
Note: Inactive last week with a toe injury. Full practice Wednesday.
66.*Damien Williams CHI vs. GB
Note: Williams started, scored and generally played well, but split the carries pretty evenly with Khalil Herbert. Placed on the COVID-IR on Thursday.
67.*Samaje Perine CIN at DET
Note: Perine tested positive for COVID-19 and was placed on the Bengals' reserve list. ***Not activated from the COVID-IR for this week.***
68.*Ty'Son Williams BAL vs. LAC
Note: ***INACTIVE.***
69.*Saquon Barkley NYG vs. LAR
Note: Barkley suffered an ugly-looking lower-ankle sprain on his left ankle. Upon getting x-rays the Giants said it looked better than it could have been, but he's still likely out a couple of weeks. Held out Thursday. ***Officially ruled out.***
70.*Nick Chubb CLE vs. ARI
Note: Back-to-back maintenance days while addressing a calf issue. ***This is more than a maintenance issue - he has been ruled out this week.***
71.*Chris Carson SEA at PIT
Note: Carson sat out last week with a sore neck, but improved over the weekend. Originally was scheduled to return to practice Thursday, but instead sat out for a second day in a row. ***Placed on IR on Friday.***
72.*David Montgomery CHI vs. GB
73.*Christian McCaffrey CAR vs. MIN
Note: Coach Matt Rhule is 'hopeful' that CMC can return this week. Hope is not a plan, so we'll wait until the practice reports come in before ranking him as an active player. Did not practice Thursday. ***Placed on IR and will miss three more weeks.***
74.*Clyde Edwards-Helaire KC at WAS
Note: Edwards-Helaire has a sprained MCL and was placed on IR by the Chiefs, which means he will miss at least three games.

Wide Receivers

1.Davante Adams GB at CHI
2.Stefon Diggs BUF at TEN
3.*Terry McLaurin WAS vs. KC
Note: Bottled up by Lattimore last week, but should find the going easier this week against the Chiefs. ***Missed practice Friday with a hamstring injury, but that was done 'out of an abundance of caution' and is expected to play.***
4.*DeAndre Hopkins ARZ at CLE
Note: Sat out practice Thursday with an illness. ***Full practice Friday, cleared to go.***
5.*DK Metcalf SEA at PIT
Note: Metcalf has missed the first two days of practice this week with a foot issue. I think that the Seahawks are managing his workload, and he'll still play. ***Cleared from the injury list on Friday.***
6.*Tyreek Hill KC at WAS
Note: Hill suffered a minor knee injury against the Bills on Sunday night but isn't expected to miss any time. It's a little dicier now, as he has missed two practices with a quad injury. ***Limited practice Friday and is expected to play.***
7.Diontae Johnson PIT vs. SEA
8.DJ Moore CAR vs. MIN
9.Cooper Kupp LA at NYG
10.*Justin Jefferson MIN at CAR

53.Jalen Reagor PHI vs. TB

Note: Parker hasn't practiced yet due to hamstring and shoulder issues.
82.Nico Collins HOU at IND
