2024 Fantasy Outlook
Brash was a workhorse for Seattle last season, establishing career-highs in games played (78) and innings (70.2). He was 2nd among qualified relievers with 107 strikeouts and 8th with a 34.7% strikeout rate and 25.3% K-BB%. The 25-year-old's 9.4% walk percentage was below-average (34th percentile), but a significant improvement over 2022's 14.9% mark. Brash's improved control was likely a big factor in him earning more high-leverage opportunities. He primarily settled into a setup role and racked up a career-best 25 holds, 9 wins and 4 saves. Brash threw far more sliders (50.5% usage) last season, a +12.7 percent difference in usage from 2022. It continues to be his most successful offering (.162 BAA, 48.5% whiff), while his secondaries could still use some work despite adding velocity on his 4-seamer (98.1 mph average). It's clear Brash is most successful as a reliever, so expect him to maintain a late-inning role for the Mariners in 2024. Read Past Outlooks

Another live BP coming
PSeattle Mariners
Elbow
April 13, 2024
Brash (elbow) is set to throw another live batting practice over the weekend and will then head out on a rehab assignment with Triple-A Tacoma, SeattleSports.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Brash threw a live batting practice early this week, and Mariners general manager Justin Hollander noted Friday that the hard-throwing right-hander emerged from that session feeling good. If Brash's second live BP goes equally well, Hollander estimates it will be just a matter of days before Brash heads down to Tacoma for a rehab assignment of a yet-to-be-determined duration.

Thriving in high-leverage role
PSeattle Mariners
August 11, 2023
Brash owns a 1.98 ERA and 1.10 WHIP across 13.2 innings since the All-Star break.
ANALYSIS
Brash is tied for the MLB lead with 14 appearances in the past 30 days. He recorded just his second save of the season August 4, but the 25-year-old has also notched 17 holds and eight wins across 57 appearances. He's a sneaky source of fantasy value with a slightly boosted ceiling after the Mariners traded closer Paul Sewald at the deadline.

Past Fantasy Outlooks

2022
Brash opened the year in the Mariners' starting rotation, but issued 17 walks and had a 2.05 WHIP through five starts and was subsequently demoted to the minors. After two months in Triple-A, he returned to Seattle as a reliever. The right-hander fared much better in this role, recording a 2.35 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 43:16 K:BB over his final 30.2 innings. He still had one of the league's worst walk rates at 14.9%, but issued "only" 4.7 BB/9 in relief versus 7.7 BB/9 as a starter. Brash didn't find success with his 97 mph fastball (.379 BA), but his slider and curve were excellent. It's clear he has the stuff to be a shutdown reliever for the M's, but he'll need to improve his control to earn more high-leverage opportunities.
Brash had thrown just 5.1 pro innings prior to last season, which ended up being a breakout campaign. He relied primarily on a 96-mph four-seam fastball that touched 100 mph and a low-to-mid-80s slider with elite spin and movement. Brash's slider is one of the best sliders currently in pro ball. He also throws a changeup and curveball, but those lag behind as distant third and fourth offerings, respectively. It's his command and control that he really needs to improve upon to reach his potential, however, as his changeup just needs to be passable for him to have success as a starter, and he may not even need a viable third pitch given how good his top two pitches are. The 6-foot-1 righty logged an 11.9 BB% in 97.1 innings at High-A and Double-A, and he can have trouble repeating his delivery. Already on the 40-man roster, Brash will begin the regular season in the major-league rotation, ahead of guys like George Kirby and Emerson Hancock. His fastball/slider combination is enough for him to have a fallback option as a shutdown reliever if starting doesn't work out.
