The first few weeks of the fantasy hoops season are a real mixed bag. It counts, but at the same time it really doesn't. As us fantasy hoops enthusiasts scour box scores trying to pick games apart and get an early read on players, we must also keep in mind that we are dealing with sample sizes of five games or less here. While early signs of life from players like Marc Gasol and Danilo Gallinari are certainly encouraging, their current averages and ranks will almost surely be significantly off from what they will be at the end of the season. The real question is how far off will they be?

The Hornets are 1-3 out of the gate after losing to the Knicks Monday night, their lone win a fourth-quarter come-from-behind affair at home over Sacramento. The Pistons are 1-2 after falling to the Bucks on Saturday. Two playoff teams from 2009 threatening the lottery in 2010. We've seen Detroit's decline coming for a few years now, but the Hornets are a stealth job.

The Giants are broken right now, and it's unclear how long they will take to fix. Eli Manning insists his foot isn't bothering him, but the entire team on both sides of the ball is out of sync. The home game against the Chargers next week might be just what the doctor ordered for the offense, but unless the Giants generate a bigger pass rush, find a solution at free safety and get linebacker Michael Boley back to help out in coverage, Philip Rivers will light them up. No one on the team except Corey Webster (and occasionally Terrell Thomas) can cover anyone right now.

This was supposed to be the year of the "Big 3" in regards to the Heisman Trophy. Tim Tebow, Colt McCoy, and reigning Heisman winner Sam Bradford. They were considered by most far and away the favorites. Now, Bradford is done, and Tebow and McCoy are struggling mightily. Additionally, nobody has really stepped into the void. This year, we're over half of the way through the season and nobody has stepped up as a solid, definitive Heisman favorite.

I really like the idea of putting Ben Francisco in left and putting Raul Ibanez at DH. I'd recommend doing the same with a right-hander on the mound for the Yanks. Though the Phillies might be tempted to get Matt Stairs' bat in the lineup instead.
