2024 Fantasy Outlook
The lefty-hitting Abreu was traded to Boston at the 2022 trade deadline in the deal that sent Christian Vazquez to Houston. He doesn't run as much as he used to, attempting just 13 steals in 114 games across Triple-A and the majors, but Abreu has a cannon of an arm and logged an impressive 49.1 HardHit% rate in 53 batted-ball events, per Statcast. He made solid swing decisions in his brief cup of coffee, but Abreu's Contact% was a hair below 70 percent, so he will likely be better in OBP leagues than AVG leagues. Abreu's defensive versatility and patient approach make him more valuable to Boston than to fantasy managers, but he's a very strong outfield streamer when home games and/or games against right-handed pitchers are on the docket. Abreu figured to get a chance on the strong side of an outfield platoon with Rob Refsnyder to start the year, but the acquisition of Tyler O'Neill notably diminishes his 2024 outlook. Sitting out versus lefty
Abreu is out of the lineup for Monday's game in Baltimore.
ANALYSIS
The Orioles have southpaw Cole Irvin on the mound Monday, so the left-handed hitting Abreu will take a seat. Rob Refsnyder will be in right field for the Red Sox and also occupy the second spot in the batting order.

2023 Fantasy Outlook
Abreu was added to Boston's 40-man roster in November and should open the 2023 campaign at the Triple-A level. He was acquired from Houston in the Christian Vazquez trade and had an .834 OPS with 19 home runs and 31 stolen bases at the Double-A level in 2022. More impressively he had a walk rate around 20 percent, though he also had a 26.3 percent strikeout rate. That level of plate discipline isn't sustainable, but it's still a strength as he also had a double-digit walk rate in the lower minors. Abreu could make his big-league debut in 2023 if he continues his strong play at Triple-A Worcester.
