Rest-of-Season Projections
2024 Fantasy Outlook
Montero did his best in September to salvage another disappointing season, slashing .286/.355/.531 with six home runs during the final month. Four of those homers came over the final six contests of the season. Still, the overall numbers were quite dreadful, and the 36.2 percent strikeout rate along with a 4.9 percent walk rate were untenable. Montero also looks to be unplayable at third base at this point, with the Rockies not giving him a start there after April. He's still just 25 and mashed again during his multiple stints back at Triple-A Albuquerque (1.129 OPS with 15 home runs in 35 games), so perhaps we shouldn't call it quits on Montero just yet. He's probably running out of chances, though. Read Past Outlooks

Pops third homer
Montero went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run, a walk and an additional run in Tuesday's 13-7 loss to the Guardians.
ANALYSIS
Montero has made three straight starts since Jordan Beck (hand) landed on the injured list, with two of those starts coming against righties. He's been productive in that short span, driving in four and also scoring four runs. Montero will need to continue to hit to maintain playing time, but the absence of Beck creates the possibility of more regular plate appearances.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Bat settling in
Montero has a .298/.367/.491 slash line with four home runs, 16 RBI and 18 runs in 34 games since being recalled from Triple-A Albuquerque on July 25.
ANALYSIS
The 25-year-old was demoted in early July after he posted a .544 OPS in his first 36 games of the campaign, but he rejoined the Rockies a few weeks later and has turned things around. Montero still has a 33.6 percent strikeout rate during that second-half stretch, but it's down to 25 percent in his past 20 contests. If he can continue to improve on putting the ball in play over the final weeks of the season, Montero should enter 2024 on an upward trajectory.

2023
2022
2021
2019
Montero made his MLB debut in 2022 and was solid in his first taste of the majors with a .233/.270/.432 slash line in 53 games. He struggled with strikeouts at time in the minors, which carried over to the big leagues with a 32.4 percent strikeout rate, and his 4.3 percent walk rate was also poor. However, those numbers at Triple-A were manageable, and he likely doesn't have much else to prove at the highest level of the minors. Colorado's infield appears mostly set with C.J. Cron at first base, Brendan Rodgers at second and Ryan McMahon at third, while top prospect Ezequiel Tovar appears primed to start at shortstop. Montero doesn't have a clear path to regular playing time to open 2023, so he may need to settle for a bench role early on, assuming he's able to crack the Opening Day roster.
