2024 Fantasy Outlook
The veteran outfielder broke out of his two-year funk in 2023, finishing with a .278/.370/.447 slash line to go along with 19 homers, 28 steals (31 attempts) and 78 RBI in 144 games. It's a far cry from the MVP-level production Yelich posted during his first two years in Milwaukee, but it's still a marked improvement on his .737 OPS from the previous two seasons. A .342 BABIP was backed up by an xBA of .277 and xSLG of .450, which indicates his 2023 results should be sustainable. Yelich's chronic back issues continue to linger and cost him nearly two weeks in September, but he's still played in all but 26 games over the last two years. That MVP form is likely long gone as he enters his age-32 campaign, but Yelich will still have plenty of fantasy value with a decent chance at a 20-20 campaign in 2024. Read Past Outlooks
Activated, starting Wednesday
The Brewers reinstated Yelich (back) from the 10-day injured list Wednesday. He'll serve as the Brewers' designated hitter and will bat third in the team's series finale in Kansas City.
ANALYSIS
Milwaukee optioned infielder Tyler Black to Triple-A Nashville to clear room on the 26-man active roster for Yelich, who had been on the shelf since April 16 with a lower-back strain. Despite missing well beyond the minimum 10 days, Yelich will return to the lineup without having gone on a minor-league rehab assignment, as the Brewers were encouraged enough with how his back responded to baseball activities over the past few days to activate him. He'll be eased back into action in a non-defensive role, and Yelich could end up seeing more work at DH over the next week or two before gradually settling into his usual spot in left field.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Trade possible?
The Brewers could listen to trade offers for Yelich if they decide to rebuild this offseason, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Yelich has five years and $130 million remaining on his contract, as well as a full no-trade clause. That makes him much unlikelier to be dealt than some of his teammates whose team control runs out after next season, like Corbin Burnes and Willy Adames. However, it's possible Yelich would be open to waiving his no-trade clause if he doesn't want to be part of a rebuild in Milwaukee. The 31-year-old no longer looks like a potential MVP candidate but is coming off a fine 2023 campaign that saw him slash .278/.370/.447 with 19 homers and 28 stolen bases.

Yelich repeated his 2021 campaign, but with more steals. Unfortunately, this includes a second season reverting to the days we all wondered what Yelich could do if he put more batted balls in the air. Had we not seen what he could do in 2019, the current version may be more accepted as a decent player with a wRC+ north of 100 every season of his career. Yelich's HardHit% was 90th percentile, fueled by an 89th percentile average exit velocity. However, a 58.6% groundball rate again capped power. As mentioned, Yelich ran more, swiping 19 bags in 22 tries. Yelich has already demonstrated he can hit more balls in the air, but that was on the other side of 30 years old and before he battled back injuries. Sure, it can happen again, but the likelier outcome is a few more seasons at the current level, with the flicker of hope more fly balls manifest. A healthy 2022 campaign does keep the candle burning.
