2024 Fantasy Outlook
Houser's time in Milwaukee has come to an end as the club traded him to the Mets in December. The right-hander reached his apex in the Brewers organization in 2021 when he went 10-6 with a 3.22 ERA and 1.28 WHIP over 142.1 innings. He has been unable to replicate the results or the workload in the years since, though 2023 was mostly a positive season around stints on the injured list due to groin and elbow issues. Houser took the ball 23 times (21 starts) and cut his walk rate down to the lowest mark of his career. He might be a good fit in spacious Citi Field given his heavy sinker-slider approach. The modest strikeout rate leaves him on the fringes in most fantasy leagues, but Houser should be in the Opening Day rotation for the Mets in 2024. Read Past Outlooks
Returning to bullpen
Mets manager Carlos Mendoza said Houser will be available out of the bullpen for Sunday's game against the Giants, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Houser returned to the rotation Tuesday against the Guardians but put up another dud with six runs allowed over five innings. He'll lose his starting spot during the upcoming week, as the Mets will bring David Peterson (hip) back from the 60-day injured list to start Wednesday versus the Dodgers. Houser has struggled to an 8.55 ERA in seven starts this season, but he's pitched better in his two relief outings with just one earned run allowed over four frames.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Window to play Tuesday?
Houser is scheduled to make his season debut Tuesday against the Tigers, and the Mets believe there is a window to play despite ongoing inclement weather, per Anthony DiComo of MLB.com.
ANALYSIS
Houser was acquired from Milwaukee in December and is beginning the campaign with a spot at the back end of New York's rotation. The right-hander made 23 appearances for the Brewers last season and had a 4.12 ERA over 111.1 innings, though his 1.39 WHIP and 7.8 K/9 don't provide much fantasy upside.

2016
Houser remained a fixture in the Brewers' rotation in 2022, finishing top-4 among Brewers pitchers in starts for a third straight year. However, he missed nearly two months with an elbow injury and was not particularly effective when he was out there, as both his ERA and WHIP were notably higher than they were in 2021. Houser took most of his lumps against left-handed hitters and on the road, as his splits against righties and at home were palatable or better. The Brewers have five other pitchers capable of breaking camp in the rotation, so despite his reliability Houser will not be guaranteed a spot, especially after the offseason signing of Wade Miley. Even if he comes away with one, it might be tough to believe in a bounceback, as although his velocity has remained steady, he will be entering his age-30 season and both his K/9 and BB/9 have trended the wrong direction three years running.
