Who's Available in Your League?

It's been awhile since I've solicited names from you for our FAAB articles - I figured now's a good time to get a gauge on what's out there.

Please tell me who you're looking at in your league, and what sort of league that you're in (player pool, number of teams).

10 Team AL 23 man no bench - Figaro, Huff, & Jim Johnson... pretty boring

10 Team NL 23 man no bench - Meyer, Nieve, De La Rosa, Madson, Hammel, Hudson, Bailey (I just vomited in my mouth), Fox, McGehee

Oh and I hate Mike Fontenot, if I weren't leading my league in avg by a large margin I would have already cut bait on him. I've seen 0-4 R next to his name for weeks now.

Yeah, I'm having a hard time digging up worthy AL names this week, too.

12 team AL-only (23 active, 14 reserve which includes minor leaguers).

Top hitters available: Don Kelly; Mike Sweeney; Russ Adams; and the usual glut of backup catchers. I guess you could toss Chris Woodward in there too.

Top pitchers: Sean O'Sullivan; Jeremy Accardo; RA Dickey; Phil Coke; Zach Miner; Justin Speier.

With the DeRosa & Perez deal, both will be up for bidding in my leagues. Not sure what this means for Kerry Wood, but I get Matt Holiday on my team for another day.

Whoever gets Beltre's at-bats in SEA would be an interesting acquisition.

For the AL, David Hernandez is coming back up and Glen Perkins has looked good off the DL, but you may have done both of them pretty recently (haven't checked last week's). David Huff had been cut in my league and he was also picked up this week.

For the NL portion, Josh Bard can't really hit, but he's on a little hot streak and seems to be the Nat's starting C for now. Former CLE prospect J.D. Martin is lighting it up in AAA for the Nats (at least statistically, I don't know what scouts are saying), and they need pitching help, so I could envision a call up in the next few weeks. Someone also make a speculative bid on Kyle Drabek in my league.

NFL Notes
A look around the league regarding Week 10:
Week 10 Observations
  • We've beaten to death Bill Belichick's decision to go for it on 4th and 2 in Sunday night's game (the best take on it I've seen is here), but the real takeaway is how much Cris Collinsworth, Al Michaels, Tony Dungy and Rodney Harrison felt it was their duty to spout the conventional wisdom without even attempting to analyze Belichick's basis for the decision. Throw in Bob Costas, and it's appalling that five guys collectively making more than $10 million a year to interpret the sport for us didn't even consider the issue from a probability standpoint. Sadly, the NBC crew is probably the best one on TV. (Update: Jon Gruden just defended Belichick's call on MNF - good for him).
  • Dominant Offense but Shaky Defense...Barkley and Dirk
This topic is a spin-off from the Michael Jordan thread of last week.  In the excellent discussion on that thread a mini-debate broke out as to how Charles Barkley compares to Kevin Garnett.  The gist of the brief debate was to question whether Barkley was enough better than Garnett offensively to make them comparable in value as overall players despite Garnett’s huge defensive advantages.  The thing is, though, to me there is a much better comp for Barkley in this generation than Garnett:  Dirk Nowitzki.

    Jennings vs Rose
Last year Derrick Rose was the NBA Rookie of the Year.  One year later, would you take him over current rookie point guard phenom Brandon Jennings?
