I hope that Vick continues to be drafted this low. Yes, he's an injury risk, but there are plenty of great backups that can spell for Vick (like Cutler, Schaub, and Freeman). It seems that QBs are being drafted higher and higher every year when it is one of the deepest positions.

I don't think it's that QBs are being drafted earlier, I think it's that RBs are getting drafted later than in years past due to RBBC and injury issues (and that the QBs are one position that, by default, is moving up draft boards). To illustrate, I picked 7. Who was worth taking at 7 overall? I think that's too high for any WR not named Calvin. The only WR taken before 16 overall was AJohnson, and I'm leery of his health at 7. So WR wasn't really an option at 7. I can see an argument for Chris Johnson, but he was invisible last year for long stretches and I'm not sure the Titans improved their offensive line any. I think Rodgers was the right choice there, and I'm not sure I can fault the guys after me who took Brees and Brady, either.

In other words, in those first few rounds, I think you need guaranteed studs, somebody you know will be a stud all season. More and more, the guys who fit that bill are QBs and WRs, not RBs.

I agree with Stopa. I'm a total wait on the QB guy, but at that point in the 3rd/4th round (was on the end), Vick just had too much upside to pass up. And I rarely take a backup QB in an early draft like this. Plenty of QBs will emerge by the early weeks of the season.

Demarco Murray #27???? Doria won the draft with that pic alone....

I'm more just looking to something to talk about then anything, but I am a little surprised Moreno was even drafted.

I think Mike, Chris and Dalton came out ahead. I'd probably include Luke's team in that list if there were an RB/WR pick instead of Manning in the second -- I think that team would be real strong with an upgrade over DHB.

What I Think You Should Know About The USMNT
Needless to say, it's been a great World Cup thus far. The USMNT having some success would be awesome.
La-La-La-L.A. Gets Lord Stanley!
Just a few things that caught my eye:
  • Alec Martinez's Cup-winning goal celebration? # priceless. I wonder if he'll ever get his gloves back.
  • Henrik Lundqvist stopped the 50th shot of the game. He couldn't stop the 51st. #connsmythe if the Rangers had found a way to come back in this series.
Do Analytics Take the Fun Out of Sports?
Apparently that was the topic of one of the presentations at the Sloan Sports Analytics Conference in Boston last week. The presenter, Yale's Edward Tufte, opined:

Don't let people tell you analytics are reductionist and take the joy out of sports. They mostly just take the stupidity out of sports.

Is he right?

The Problem With Drafting Billy Hamilton
Billy Hamilton went for $28 in the NL LABR auction this past weekend. I discussed this with a fellow writer who participates in Tout Wars with me later this month and we discussed the problem with investing heavily into Hamilton.
