Most Injured Team I've Ever Owned

I thought my 2010 AL-only LABR team had that distinction with Kendrys Morales, Grady Sizemore and Dustin Pedroia all winding up out for the year (roughly 1/3 of my budget), in addition to Erik Bedard never playing and various injuries to minor players. But 2011 NL Tout I believe has finally surpassed it. Here's my original roster:

Pos Player PriceHealth
C Buster Posey $22Out for the year
C Geovany Soto $1915-day DL stint
1B Brandon Belt $815-day DL stint
2B Rickie Weeks $2415-day DL stint (3-6 weeks)
3B Scott Rolen $132 15-day DL stints
SS Paul Janish $2healthy, but useless
CI Brett Wallace $9healthy
MI Danny Espinosa $17healthy
OF Jason Bay $1915-day DL stint
OF Alfonso Soriano $1715-day DL stint
OF Seth Smith $15healthy
OF Nyjer Morgan $92 15-day DL stints
OF Kosuke Fukudome $8healthy
U Aaron Rowand $2healthy
P Cole Hamels $22healthy
P Francisco Rodriguez $17healthy
P J.J. Putz $1315-day DL stint
P Jonny Venters $8healthy
P Travis Wood $7healthy
P Homer Bailey $42 15-day DL stints
P Brandon Beachy $315-day DL stint
P Jon Garland $1Out for the year
P Joe Saunders $1healthy but cut
R Matt Gamel $0healthy, but useless
R Rubby De la Rosa $015-day DL stint
R Yuniesky Maya $0healthy, but useless
R Tyler Greene $0healthy, but useless

Of course, some of these guys were injury prone, like Rolen, Soriano and Putz, but of the $260 I spent on this team, $152 worth was on players who hit the DL at least once. Somehow, I'm in 6th place, though I have zero chance to win and am just playing out the string and actually rooting for more injuries for the story value.

I know the feeling! The only thing more crazy than all of those gimps is the fact you are somehow in 6th place? lmao Any type of real deep format generally shows no mercy for a lot of injuries. If you think that is bad, imagine that roster in a no trade league? Doh!!! I am about as injury conscious as there is on draft day and still get hammered some years. Matt Holliday round 2, ironman, never gets hurt right? Except the year I take him! Sometimes you eat health food and still get sick. C'est la vie!

What I Think You Should Know About The USMNT
Needless to say, it's been a great World Cup thus far. The USMNT having some success would be awesome.
La-La-La-L.A. Gets Lord Stanley!
Just a few things that caught my eye:
  • Alec Martinez's Cup-winning goal celebration? # priceless. I wonder if he'll ever get his gloves back.
  • Henrik Lundqvist stopped the 50th shot of the game. He couldn't stop the 51st. #connsmythe if the Rangers had found a way to come back in this series.
Do Analytics Take the Fun Out of Sports?
Apparently that was the topic of one of the presentations at the Sloan Sports Analytics Conference in Boston last week. The presenter, Yale's Edward Tufte, opined:

Don't let people tell you analytics are reductionist and take the joy out of sports. They mostly just take the stupidity out of sports.

Is he right?

The Problem With Drafting Billy Hamilton
Billy Hamilton went for $28 in the NL LABR auction this past weekend. I discussed this with a fellow writer who participates in Tout Wars with me later this month and we discussed the problem with investing heavily into Hamilton.
