Mock Draft Army #2 Team

Not even June 1st and I'm already moving into Fantasy Football season.  It's never too early to get a leg up on your opponents in what is the best fantasy sport around.  Sure, there's baseball, but that's for marathon runners.  I'm more of a sprinter.  I'll take football and its 16 weeks of agonizing ecstasy.  It also helps that the games themselves are actually watchable, unlike in baseball.

Thursday night I participated in Rotowire's #MockDraftArmy draft hosted by Mock Draft Central.  It was a 10-team, 2-QB draft that had some interesting results.  Here is my team.  How did I do?

Rodgers and Stafford in a 2 QB league is as good as it gets.
Jackson in the 13th is great value.

Alleluia! Thank you Mike Gottlieb for telling it like it is, Its Fantasy Football or NOTHING(yes all CAPS) for 90% of the people who play fantasy sports its FANTASY FOOTBALL all the time, every day, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, and 366 days in a Leap year, so please don't front and act like people care about fantasy baseball, yes I get it maybe 10% of people who play fantasy sports care about fantasy baseball, good for youuuu but fantasy football is King, REMEMBER THAT, say it ten times....Fantasy Football is King, Fantasy Football is King, etc... Stop cramming boring baseball talk down our throats on Sirius ch.210, It's always football season as far as I'm concerned and that's probably how 30 million or so Americans also feel.

Mike, the draft you did looks good, my only problem with it is that the #1 rule in the fantasy football bible is, No ten team leagues allowed, right? Well if there was a Fantasy Football Bible that would be the #1 rule.....EVERY league should be 12 teams or more, no exceptions, if you want to be a man and play fantasy football then be a man and play in a 12 team or bigger league, I will let your 10 team mock draft go this time because it was a two QB league, but next time I'm throwing the yellow flag at you. Great job Mike, I think I will be a big fan of yours as long as you keep telling it like it is, take notes from Chris Liss, he's the man, and in order to be the man, you have to beat the man.

Jnowak - In two-QB start leagues, 10 teams is very common because in, let's say a 12-team league, there are not enough starting QBs to go around during bye weeks. If every roster had 3 QBs, and all of those QBs did not have the same bye week (which would be a miracle unto itself), that would make 36 QBs from 32 teams. 2 QB makes everything tough.

What some leagues do to compensate for that is to make their FLEX spot be open to QBs in addition to RB/WR/TE. This provides the essence of a 2-QB league without the messiness during bye weeks.

What I Think You Should Know About The USMNT
Needless to say, it's been a great World Cup thus far. The USMNT having some success would be awesome.
La-La-La-L.A. Gets Lord Stanley!
Just a few things that caught my eye:
  • Alec Martinez's Cup-winning goal celebration? # priceless. I wonder if he'll ever get his gloves back.
  • Henrik Lundqvist stopped the 50th shot of the game. He couldn't stop the 51st. #connsmythe if the Rangers had found a way to come back in this series.
Do Analytics Take the Fun Out of Sports?
Apparently that was the topic of one of the presentations at the Sloan Sports Analytics Conference in Boston last week. The presenter, Yale's Edward Tufte, opined:

Don't let people tell you analytics are reductionist and take the joy out of sports. They mostly just take the stupidity out of sports.

Is he right?

The Problem With Drafting Billy Hamilton
Billy Hamilton went for $28 in the NL LABR auction this past weekend. I discussed this with a fellow writer who participates in Tout Wars with me later this month and we discussed the problem with investing heavily into Hamilton.
