Lord Stanley Game Two

Just a few things that caught my eye:
  • How many Hawks can a Bruin hit if a Bruin could hit Hawks? Answer? 50. Wow. Hit the ice tubs, boys.
  • Jaromir Jagr and his anti-beard -- so close, yet so far, far away. Maybe the posts have fattened up over the duration of his career.
  • What's your over-under on overtimes this series? Geez. Enough already.
  • Whoa -- Jay Feaster tossed the sixth, 22nd and and 28th picks in this year's Entry Draft at the Avs for the top pick overall, but was rebuffed. I'd consider it in a deep draft like this one, particularly if you're planning on taking Seth Jones. No offense, but it just takes a while for defenders to deliver and it'd just make Feaster look worse ... unless he really was targeting Nathan McKinnon.
  • I like what Corey Crawford has done, but Team Canada? Really? I'm not sure I'll ever be sold on a puck blocker being a better twinetender than a real athlete.
  • Dan Paille, you da man. It was a beautiful snipe, though. The Bruins' fourth line sure came up big.
  • There was really nowhere but up for the Bruins after that first. Yikes. The Bruins climbed the hill over the course of the game while the Hawks lost serious steam. Bad combination for Chicago.
  • I dunno about that no-goal call in the first. I know there's that thing called "intent" to blow the whistle, but that was awfully late.

Milbury had a point when he ripped Jagr early on, but to his credit, Jags slowly picked up the pace as the game progressed (like he did in Game 1)...I bet he's aiming for the post in Game 3, so that it will miss and go in...Horton was favoring his shoulder -- that's a painful issue -- but just being out there was huge...Krug has had his shaky moments of late, but the kid is undeterred. He's also due...on the flip side, Toews and Kane are too...It's unreal that Kane's one assist is the only point the B's have allowed to their opponents' top two forwards over the last six games, following Crosby and Malkin's scoreless series.

What I Think You Should Know About The USMNT
Needless to say, it's been a great World Cup thus far. The USMNT having some success would be awesome.
La-La-La-L.A. Gets Lord Stanley!
Just a few things that caught my eye:
  • Alec Martinez's Cup-winning goal celebration? # priceless. I wonder if he'll ever get his gloves back.
  • Henrik Lundqvist stopped the 50th shot of the game. He couldn't stop the 51st. #connsmythe if the Rangers had found a way to come back in this series.
Do Analytics Take the Fun Out of Sports?
Apparently that was the topic of one of the presentations at the Sloan Sports Analytics Conference in Boston last week. The presenter, Yale's Edward Tufte, opined:

Don't let people tell you analytics are reductionist and take the joy out of sports. They mostly just take the stupidity out of sports.

Is he right?

The Problem With Drafting Billy Hamilton
