Week 4 Observations

The 2013 Broncos are the 2007 Pats. Before you (as many did on Twitter) say the Broncos are better, please look at the game logs for the Pats first 10 games that year. Oddly Wes Welker is the common denominator, just as Randy Moss was the common denominator between the 2007 Pats and 1998 Vikings another 15-plus win team and also one of the greatest offenses of all time. Maybe Demaryius Thomas will be part of some other juggernaut in 2019. It's worth noting the Vikings and Pats both lost in the playoffs.

How To End A Fantasy Season

Come watch me agonize over every pitch on the craziest final day of a fantasy season that I've ever been part of.

Week 3 Observations

The Giants are 3-8 since the mid-point of 2012, and after a total no-show in Carolina, it's time for Tom Coughlin, offensive coordinator Kevin Gilbride and Eli Manning to take more heat. Benching a running back isn't going to cut it this week.

Our friends at FanDuel are running a RotoWire exclusive. For Week 2 we have a HUGE $2000 contest that costs just $10 to enter. With a cap of 165 entries we expect this contests to fill up quickly so don't delay.

Week 2 Observations

I knew the Texans were a slam dunk in Survivor. Don't know why anyone would have sweated it when Matt Schaub gave up a pick-six down one with three minutes left.

Rotowire/FanDuel $2000 Week 2 Contest

Our friends at FanDuel are running a RotoWire exclusive. For Week 2 we have a HUGE $2000 contest that costs just $10 to enter. The contest has a cap of 150 entries so that means there is $500 of locked in value. With a cap of 150 entries we expect this contests to fill up quickly so don't delay.

Week 1 Observations

It's amazing how much I missed football. I didn't realize it until the full Sunday slate kicked off and then for 15 minutes I was ecstatic.

Until my Survivor Pick, the Steelers, lost their starting center to a torn ACL and shortly thereafter Isaac Redman, whom I started over Eddie Lacy in one league and Rueben Randle in another, fumbled on the five-yard line. Then my No. 1 pick in the $100K NFFC league, Calvin Johnson, got his touchdown reversed, and my No. 1 pick in the NFFC $100K online championship, C.J. Spiller, fumbled and yielded carries to a more-effective Fred Jackson.

It was then I remembered what NFL Sundays are really about: extended stretches of stress and misery, punctuated by rare and isolated bursts of joy.

But at least I had the Giants game to look forward to on Sunday night...

Can The Machine Save My Fantasy Football Season?

It’s happened to us all at some point or another in our fantasy careers. The circumstances and stories may vary as to how and why, but at some point or another you’ve totally botched your draft. You might have been the most prepared guy in the room (or chat room as the case seems to be more often these days), but when something goes wrong – internet goes down, laptop crashes, baby is crying, significant other is nagging, whatever the case may be – things tend to snowball and your draft becomes a hot mess. Such was the case for me in my 14-team, NFL Standard draft.

Bold Predictions

Some bold predictions about the upcoming season from our NFL writers.

Late ADP Trends: Top 15 Fallers in Standard Leagues

When last we left you on Friday, we were looking at the top 10 ADP risers in NFL standard scoring leagues. Now with final roster cuts made and teams settling in on position battles, things are taking an even better shape for those who still haven’t drafted. Today we’re going to look at the top 15 ADP fallers in NFL standard scoring leagues. Why 15 and not 10? Because a few extra names wouldn’t hurt, especially when some in the top 15 are only there because of injury. It doesn’t take a world of analysis to know that someone is falling down on draft boards because he broke his leg, right?

Fantasy NASCAR - Slappin' Good Fun

OK, Fantasy Freaks, I know everyone is wigging out about Fantasy Football as we're days away from Week 1's opening kickoff. But for those of you who have already drafted your team and are looking for a fun distraction, may I recommend Fantasy NASCAR? The Chase is just about to start (NASCAR's playoff) and you can jump right in. A nice aspect of Fantasy NASCAR is you can start at any point in the season and change drivers every week -- there is not a stressful "draft night".

I recommend starting a NASCAR league with your Fantasy Football buddies so you've got additional trash talk topics. And if things get real heated, you can always send your girlfriend over to slap a league rival. That's just what happened...

Needless to say, it's been a great World Cup thus far. The USMNT having some success would be awesome.
La-La-La-L.A. Gets Lord Stanley!
Just a few things that caught my eye:
  • Alec Martinez's Cup-winning goal celebration? # priceless. I wonder if he'll ever get his gloves back.
  • Henrik Lundqvist stopped the 50th shot of the game. He couldn't stop the 51st. #connsmythe if the Rangers had found a way to come back in this series.
Do Analytics Take the Fun Out of Sports?
Apparently that was the topic of one of the presentations at the Sloan Sports Analytics Conference in Boston last week. The presenter, Yale's Edward Tufte, opined:

Don't let people tell you analytics are reductionist and take the joy out of sports. They mostly just take the stupidity out of sports.

Is he right?

The Problem With Drafting Billy Hamilton
Billy Hamilton went for $28 in the NL LABR auction this past weekend. I discussed this with a fellow writer who participates in Tout Wars with me later this month and we discussed the problem with investing heavily into Hamilton.
