Real 14 TM Mixed League Auction Results

This week I engaged in a 14 team mixed league auction with other fantasy industry folk.  Here are the results and my team.

Note: You can't mock this blog post because the results are real.  You can only mock me for my foolish spending.

Recent First Base ADP Trends

Just as we did earlier in the month, we’re looking at each position and its ADP trends separately so you have a better idea as to where you should be looking for certain players and should you miss out on the ones up top, how long you can wait before filling that spot

Recent Catcher ADP Trends

Now that we’re two weeks into spring training and games have begun in both the Cactus and Grapefruit Leagues, it’s time to re-visit the ADP rankings of each position.

Going Tapioca at the Accenture, Final Day

Final Day of the Accenture. Currently looking at a modest win, but we're not done with the picks yet. Three more matches to go; start counting the jelly beans. (Selections for entertainment purposes only.)

Fantasy College Basketball Game of the Week: Georgetown at Syracuse

Perry Missner gives his thoughts about rivalries and takes a look at one of the best of them: Syracuse and Georgetown.

RotoWire Experts Mock Draft -- Where the Popular Guys Go

If you’ve been following along so far this offseason, you’ll know that I have been paying close attention to what I refer to as “trendy picks”. If not, it’s simple – every season, the fantasy pundits out a few sleepers and talk them up fairly often here on the web or in the fantasy baseball magazines that have been hitting shelves recently.

Going Tapioca at the Accenture, Round 3

Had a winning Round 2, but still have overall work to be done. Here are the Round 3 selections. All selections are in jelly beans; for entertainment purposes only.

My 2013 NFL Draft Positional Rankings

Here are my positional rankings for the 2013 NFL Draft, pre-Combine workouts. I'll list both my personal rankings, as well as a parenthetically-listed draft projection for each player.

Consider Games-Played Variances in Trade Evaluations

Not all hockey players are equal -- even those who are equal. You must account for the number of games left to play in order to assess accurately each player's future value.

Tapioca at the Accenture Match Play - Day 2

Day 1 was bloody (1-2), though at least Carl Pettersson closed his match out this morning. We trudge forward. All units are in jelly beans - for entertainment purposes only.

Drama on a Desert Stage

In match play, each day is the final day for half the field. Thursday's play at the WGC Match Play provided more than its share of thrilling moments.

Going Tapioca at the Accenture Match Play

Eventually the snow will melt and they'll have to play golf. Let's make it more fun with some mythical picks against the number.

RotoWire Experts Mock Draft -- An ADP Comparison

On Wednesday, RotoWire’s Derek VanRiper and Kevin Payne hosted a live NFBC-style mock draft during their show on SiriusXM Fantasy Sports Radio. The group of 15 was comprised of the two show hosts, a handful of guys who play in the NFBC and mock regularly, and a mix of RotoWire staff/interns and XM producers. Yours truly was also in on the action.

2013 W-L Predictions: Money Talks

Vegas has now posted their win totals and World Series odds for each team, giving the savvy bettor an opportunity to wager before bookmakers can adjust.

Fantasy College Basketball Game of the Week: Indiana at Michigan State

Perry Missner finally sees a Big 10 battle that is worthy of much praise.

Mike Woodson: Coach of the Year

Disclaimer: To reiterate, I'm a New Yorker and thus, inherently biased. However, I remain steadfast in my beliefs that my opinions are consistently the correct ones.

I'm just going to say what everyone else has been thinking: Mike Woodson is a magical stern-faced Buddha sent down by the coaching gods to save the drowning New York Knicks. Woodson came at a critical time when NYK fans were just about ready to jump the sinking Manhattan ship and head towards the seemingly safer waters with the omnipotent Jay-Z in Brooklyn.

Normalizing ADP: Look Who's Falling

It’s as if the sun is shining just a bit brighter now in the mornings, isn’t it? The dark cloud of winter has finally lifted and you can now fill all of your downtime with team reports and player updates that have more baseball substance than they do tales of Scott Boras and Biogenesis. Pitchers and catchers have reported to camp and the 2013 MLB season…well not regular season, but you know what I mean…has officially begun.

If You Miss Out On...

I recently finished a top-350 list for the site and found (as there is each baseball season) some great values in the later rounds. I decided to take a look at some players who can get you similar stats if you miss out on someone in the top-100. Note, I?m not saying that the production will be matched but said production could be closer than you think. Also, the players discussed could be used as a "sleeper" list for those in auctions. I have listed at the bottom of each player my bullish prediction for them focusing on what I think their upside is if everything breaks their way. Thanks to the NFBC for providing the early ADP data.

Tracking ADP: The Youth Movement

Even if you’re not playing in a keeper league, the youngsters play an extremely important role in your fantasy baseball league. They always draw so much attention as everyone is looking to hit it big and be the one who drafts the next Albert Pujols or Ryan Braun or [insert any stud fantasy player’s name].

Studying ADP: The Trendy Picks of 2013

Every year there comes a list of players whom the fantasy experts laud and the masses flock to. They might not be the biggest names out there, but they are the ones who are expected to have the biggest breakouts relative to their draft positions. That’s right, they’re the sleepers of 2013.

The ADP is Stagnant, But Not For Long

Aaaaaahhhhhhh. You feel that? That warm comforting hug your mind is getting? That’s the feeling of baseball in the air. Yeah baby! Spring Training 2013 has officially begun as pitchers and catchers reported for work today. It’s the first official sign that the ice is melting (sorry east coast) and winter is coming to a close.

Fantasy College Basketball Game of the Week: On Overtime and Anthony Bennett

Perry Missner stays up late (again) and watches UNLV's Anthony Bennett.

NFBC vs MDC: An ADP Comparison

The closer we get to pitchers and catchers reporting, the more mock drafts are happening on a daily basis. And with that, the data here on Mock Draft Central that we have been somewhat avoiding lately is starting to become more relevant.

ADP Trends and the Importance of Rounds 3 - 6

So you’ve got your big three, huh? The backbone of your team; the foundation upon which you are building your fantasy championship. While it all sounds real nice, there’s so much more work to be done.

Fantasy College Basketball Game of the Week: Texas at West Virginia

Perry Missner goes to Plan B and watches two evenly matched Big 12 teams.

The ADP Trends Found in the Top 50 Overall

As we’ve been discussing ADP over the last few weeks, one point that we continue to make is the current lack of reliability in the ADP rankings we see here on Mock Draft Central.

Early NFBC ADP Trends for Closers

It’s time to start talking closers. We’ll talk relievers in general once we get a little further into spring training as there will be plenty of names emerging that aren’t even on the fantasy radar.

La-La-La-L.A. Gets Lord Stanley!
Just a few things that caught my eye:
  • Alec Martinez's Cup-winning goal celebration? # priceless. I wonder if he'll ever get his gloves back.
  • Henrik Lundqvist stopped the 50th shot of the game. He couldn't stop the 51st. #connsmythe if the Rangers had found a way to come back in this series.
Do Analytics Take the Fun Out of Sports?
Apparently that was the topic of one of the presentations at the Sloan Sports Analytics Conference in Boston last week. The presenter, Yale's Edward Tufte, opined:

Don't let people tell you analytics are reductionist and take the joy out of sports. They mostly just take the stupidity out of sports.

Is he right?

The Problem With Drafting Billy Hamilton
Billy Hamilton went for $28 in the NL LABR auction this past weekend. I discussed this with a fellow writer who participates in Tout Wars with me later this month and we discussed the problem with investing heavily into Hamilton.
